Energy Efficiency Upgrade to a pair of Semi-D's.
Home owners are increasingly becoming aware of the benefits of retro-fitting - both financial and environmental. A pair of late 1980’s semi-d houses in Monkstown have served their owners well but were in need of thermal upgrading.
Initially asked to look at one house only, we encouraged the attached neighbours to consider upgrading also. Once they agreed, we were then in a position to negotiate a discounted rate for the entire job and avoid any nasty joints between new and existing surfaces.
Following our mantra of ’fabric first’ we advised on the installation of External Wall Insulation (EWI) and acrylic render to both houses. One property will also receive high-spec double-glazed windows - the other had previously had its original windows replaced with triple-glazed units.
'Alternative energy is expensive, insulation is cheap'.
We would sometimes use the installation of an EWI as an opportunity to suggest a facelift to a tired or lacking elevation. In this case, we opted to respect the collective aesthetic of the 90 or so houses in the estate. All materials and brick detailing are being carefully replicated to match the original. Undertaking this work to both properties at once also eliminates any awkward interface in finishes at the party lines.
If you have any questions about upgrading your own property, or would like more information about the options, please get in touch and we can advise you.
